Malaysia’s Starwave International and Fudah Group Visit GUET for Exchange (Photo)

On May 28, Tan Sri Liao Zhonglai, Chairman of Starwave International Malaysia, and Edward Khoo Meng Wei, President of Fudah Group, led a delegation to visit the university. Xu Huarui, Secretary of the Party Committee, met with the guests and held a symposium in Conference Room 203, International College, Huajiang Campus. Vice President Pan Kailin chaired the symposium.

Xu Huarui welcomed Tan Sri Liao Zhonglai and Edward Khoo Meng Wei. He briefly introduced the university’s history, disciplinary strengths, talent cultivation achievements, and China–ASEAN education and technology cooperation. He stated that GUET attaches great importance to cooperation with both enterprises, and proposed that both sides co-build an International Joint AI Laboratory following the path of “R&D in Beijing-Shanghai-Guangzhou + Integration in Guangxi + Application in ASEAN”to drive deep integration of AI with agriculture, healthcare, and mining; co-establish a Joint Talent Training Base leveraging the GUET Nanning Research Institute to offer AI courses, training, and internships, providing talent support for AI-empowered disciplines and majors in Malaysia; and co-build a Technology Transfer and Intelligent Scenario Demonstration Center to promote deployment of relevant technological outcomes in Malaysia.
Tan Sri Liao Zhonglai thanked the university for its warm reception. He introduced Starwave International’s background and noted that Malaysia is vigorously promoting smart city construction and AI application, and looks forward to introducing Chinese advanced technologies. He stated that GUET has outstanding advantages in algorithms, computing power, and research equipment, and can provide solid technical support for relevant Malaysian projects. He expressed hope for continued deepened cooperation to achieve complementary strengths between Malaysia and China in technology, talent, and scenarios, jointly promote industry-academia-research-application integration, and build a model of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.
Edward Khoo Meng Wei introduced Fudah Group’s background. He pointed out that Malaysia is accelerating fiber-optic network and smart city construction, and Fudah Group urgently needs to introduce advanced technologies for scenario-based verification and localized adaptation. He expressed hope for in-depth cooperation with GUET on data research centers and intelligent scenario demonstration centers, leveraging GUET’s research strengths to jointly promote deployment of relevant technologies in actual Malaysian projects and achieve precise alignment between technological outcomes and local needs.
At the symposium, both sides conducted pragmatic discussions on co-building the Guangxi–Malaysia AI and Smart City Intelligent Scenario Demonstration Center, AI Application Laboratory, and Data Research Center, and exchanged views on joint research project applications, talent cultivation, short-term study tours and semester exchanges, and Sino-foreign cooperative education.
During the visit, Tan Sri Liao Zhonglai and Edward Khoo Meng Wei also toured the university’s Smart Transportation Laboratory.
Starwave International CEO Muhammad Kamil Yusof and Executive Director Wang Xu, along with heads of the university’s Development Planning Office, Science and Technology Development Research Institute, International Cooperation and Exchange Department, School of Electronic Engineering and Automation, School of Marxism, International College,and School of Optoelectronic Engineering, participated in the above activities.
