Our University’s International Students Immersively Experience “the Shangsi Festival (Festival on March 3rd lunar calenda) in Guangxi” Activity, Savoring Traditional Charm and Promoting Cultural Exchanges

Learning intangible cultural heritage amidst the sounds of bronze drums and savoring the essence of spring in multicolored rice. On March 29, at the invitation of the Publicity Department of the Guilin Municipal Party Committee, the College of International Exchange at Guilin University of Electronic Technology organized over 50 international students to participate in the “the Shangsi Festivalin Guangxi • A Grand Celebration in Bagui”event featuring Suofen (Rice Noodle Tasting) competition, Tea Contest, and Zhuang Folk Song Fairin the Dongli ancient village, Guilin. The international students, dressed in Guangxi folk costumes and traditional ethnic attires from various countries, embarked on a cultural exchange and collision that transcended national and ethnic boundaries.

At the opening ceremony, the international student choir and the international student dragon and lion dance team participated in performances. During the event, the international students actively engaged in various traditional cultural experience activities. They tasted Guilin oil tea and local special snacks, experiencing unique local flavors; learned about traditional Guilin opera, appreciating the charm of traditional Chinese art; and participated in tour activities, interacting closely with local residents and tourists.

This event is a concrete implementation of our university’s “immersive multi-path”education model. It also brought our international students a vivid cultural experience journey of the Zhuang ethnic group in Guangxi, enabling them to more fully perceive the charm of China, transmit Guangxi’s traditional culture, tell China’s stories more vividly, and contribute the power of GUET to promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
