Recently,College of International Exchange invited Ms. Ma Hong, an inheritor of Guilin's intangible cultural heritage of paper-cutting, to carry out a Chinese paper-cutting cultural experience activity for international students. The activity adopts a form that combines skill teaching with cultural interpretation, allowing international students from different countries to experience the picturesque charm of Guilin, Guangxi, and the unique appeal of traditional art on a piece of paper.
During the activity, Ma Hong took Guilin landmarks such as Lijiang River in mist and rain and Elephant Trunk Hill as starting points to explain the distinctive craftsmanship features of Guilin paper-cutting, which “Uses knives instead of pens and creates shapes through floating carving”. In the practical operation session, the students held scissors and cut the folded red paper according to the patterns. Tran Thi Mai Tuong from Vietnam said, “This is my first time experiencing paper-cutting. The process of personally creating exquisite works has given me a great sense of achievement and also made me feel the profound connotations of Chinese paper-cutting culture.”
