International Students Participate in “Alumni Leading · Joint Exploration of Scientific Research” Theme Exchange Activity in Changsha

To build a communication bridge between our university’s international students and outstanding alumni, and to help international students broaden their academic horizons and deepen their understanding of professional fields, the College of International Exchange recently organized international student representatives to go to Changsha, Hunan, and visit the laboratory of outstanding alumnus Professor Tang Jie, carrying out the “Alumni Leading · Joint Exploration of Scientific Research”theme exchange activity.

BALOGUN MUHAMMAD-SADEEQ ADETUNJI, Chinese name Tang Jie, is of Nigerian nationality. He is a master’s graduate of the Class of 2012, majoring in Materials Science and Engineering at Guilin University of Electronic Technology. He is currently a professor, doctoral supervisor, and Yuelu Scholar at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Hunan University.

During the activity, Professor Tang Jie shared his persistence and breakthroughs on the road of scientific research—from overcoming the language barrier to breaking through technical bottlenecks—combined with his own growth experience of studying at GUET and becoming a professor at Hunan University. He frankly stated that “there are no shortcuts in scientific research, but every persistence will bring new possibilities”, and encouraged international students to cherish their time at school, actively participate in scientific research projects, and accumulate abilities in practice. Subsequently, he led the students to visit the laboratory, briefly introduced the functions and application scenarios of core equipment, and specially invited international students to have operation experiences.

This activity, through the form of on-site visits and face-to-face discussions, stimulated students’ enthusiasm for scientific research, broadened their academic horizons through the real scientific research growth stories of alumni, and effectively played the demonstration role of “Alumni Leading”.
